Bucavac Vineyards

The famous dry-stone vineyard landscape south of Primošten, where Babić vines grow in tiny plots walled off from the rock; a protected cultural asset.

Why it's worth it

The Bucavac vineyards are the image of Primošten's hinterland: a hillside south of the town divided into hundreds of small plots by dry-stone walls, each one holding a few Babić vines on thin red soil over bare rock. The tourist board notes that the landscape is a protected cultural asset. Generations of farmers cleared the stone by hand and stacked it into the walls you see today, so the vineyards tell the story of how wine is made here at all. The pattern is best appreciated from above: from the road, from a viewpoint or from the Our Lady of Loreto lookout. This is working farmland, not a park: admire it from paths and roads and do not enter private plots.
