Cape Planka (Rt Ploča)

Windswept cape south-east of Rogoznica, traditionally the dividing point between the northern and southern Adriatic, with the small votive chapel of St John of Trogir.

Why it's worth it

Cape Planka, also called Rt Ploča, is the headland south-east of Rogoznica where, according to the local tourist board, the northern and southern Adriatic meet. The two sides can have different winds and waves at the same moment, which gave the cape its reputation among sailors. On the point stands a small chapel of St John of Trogir, which the tourist board describes as a votive church from 1324, built in thanks for a safe landing in a storm. The surroundings are bare rock, low scrub and open sea: a place for a walk, a few photographs and quiet. There is no lighthouse or other visitor attraction here; the appeal is the landscape and the story.

Good to know

Exposed, rocky terrain and no shade or facilities; sturdy shoes and water. Be careful near the edge in strong wind or waves.
