Church of St Rocco

Small 16th-century church in a cypress-shaded park just outside the Old Town, originally built as a cemetery chapel.

Why it's worth it

The church of St Rocco (Crkva sv. Roka) stands in a landscaped park at the entrance to the Old Town. According to the tourist board it was built in 1553 as a cemetery chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy outside the village walls, then enlarged and rededicated to St Rocco in 1680. Today it is a quiet counterpoint to the busy square nearby: a simple stone chapel, tall cypresses and benches for a pause in the shade. The monument to Don Ivo Šarić stands in front of it. It is a natural stop on the official Old Town walking route.
