Dragon's Eye Lake (Zmajevo oko)
A round salt-water lake in a rocky bowl on the Gradina peninsula at Rogoznica, separated from the sea by narrow strips of land; a natural curiosity wrapped in local legend.
Why it's worth it
Zmajevo oko, the Dragon's Eye, is a small, almost circular lake sunk into the rock of the Gradina peninsula in Rogoznica. According to the local tourist board it is separated from the two neighbouring bays, Soline and Koprišće, only by thin strips of land, and its water is salty and connected to the sea underground.
Steep rock walls surround it, so the lake looks like an eye from above, and local legend ties it to a dragon. It is also known for occasional unusual changes in its water, which is why signs and local notices should be respected.
A short walk from the Marina Frapa and the town, it is an easy and memorable stop on a Rogoznica visit.
