Zlarin Island
Small, quiet island just off Šibenik, known for its coral-harvesting heritage, one stone village around a bay and a slow pace; reached by Jadrolinija passenger boat from Šibenik.
Why it's worth it
Zlarin is the island closest to Šibenik and the easiest island day trip from the Primošten area. There is a single village of stone houses around a sheltered bay, pine woods and coves behind it, and a long tradition of coral harvesting that is presented at the Croatian Coral Centre in the village.
According to the Šibenik tourist board, the Jadrolinija passenger line 505 connects Šibenik with Zlarin in about twenty minutes. The island is small and traffic is minimal, so the day is about walking, swimming in the coves and a long lunch by the harbour.
It works well combined with a morning in Šibenik: boat out, afternoon on the island, boat back.
